Johann Henning Waldenström

Swedish surgeon, born August 14, 1877, Uppsala; died 1972.

Disorder characterized by unilateral or bilateral aseptic necrosis of the emphysis of the head of the femur (caput femoris).

Plummer-Vinson syndrome
A syndrome characterized by an iron-deficiency anaemia, atrophic changes in the buccal, glossopharyngeal, and oesophageal mucous membranes, koilonycha (spoon-shaped finger nails), and dysphagia.

Waldenström's disease
Chronic inflammation of the head of the femur in children.





Biography:
Johann Henning Waldenström studied at Uppsala and Stockholm, receiving hos doctorate from the latter university in 1910. He was Dosent of orthopaedic surgery at Stockholm.
