Biography of Eugen von Bamberger

Eugen von Bamberger was the son of the clinician Heinrich von Bamberger (1822-1888). He studied in Vienna and Würzburg and received his doctorate in 1882. Becoming assistant to Carl Wilhelm Hermann Nothnagel (1841-1905) he was soon reckoned to be one of the best diagnosticians at the Vienna General Hospital – Wien Allgemeines Krankenhaus. From 1891 he directed a department of internal medicine at the Rudolfsspital. He was not a very communicative person, a fact that may explain his sparing number of publications.
