A fracture of the foot accompanied by lateral displacement dislocation of the tarsometatarsal joint (Lisfranc's joint) of the foot. This injury can be caused by a high-energy blow to the foot or by a twisting fall. The name was given after Lisfranc’s description of the injury suffered by a soldier who fell off his horse with his foot trapped in the stirrup. It occurs in certain athletic injuries.
