Biography of Rudolf Polland

Rudolf Polland studied in Vienna and received his doctorate there in 1901. He then first worked in Vienna, then 1904-1920 assistant at the universi9ty dermatological clinic in Graz under Karl Kreibich (1869-1832) and Rudolf Matzenauer (1869-1932). He was habilitated for dermatology and syphilis in Graz in 1908, becoming ausserordentlicher professor in 1914. 1920-1923 he was head physician at the dermatological department of the hospital Graz-West. In 1924 Polland founded the Grasser Gesellschaft für Rassenhygiene.

    Grant's book, first published in 1916, was an elaborate work of racial hygiene detailing the "racial history" of Europe. The work is considered one of the most influential and vociferous works of scientific racism and eugenics to come out of the United States.
