Description:
In Basedow’s syndrome retraction of the upper lid is usually bilateral. However, a unilateral retraction on the basis of hypertonicity of the elevator occurs, although rare. The Belgian ophthalmologist Jules François (1907-1984) observed seven cases of unilateral involvement associated with thyroid disturbance.
