Phenomenon in brachyoesophagus, which is an abnormally short oesophagus with dislocation of the gastrooesophageal passage to the lower mediastinum. Brachyoesophagus is usually associated with cardiac insufficiency. It occurs mostly secondary to shrinking of the length of the oesophagus caused by infection. The part of the fundus of stomach displaced towards the oral is known as Barrett's hiatus hernia.
