Rappaport's classification
Associated persons:
Henry Rappaport
Description:
A classification of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas based on histological criteria. It was developed before lymphoid cells were divided into B-cells and T-cells. It was a milestone and became the most widely used classification in the USA from 1966 until it was replaced by the Kiel Classification and the Lukes-Collins Classification. The Kiel classification was the first to recognize B and T cell subtypes. The Lukes-Collins Classification was used in the United States, the Kiel classification in Europe. The Working Formulation was introduced in 1982 and in 1994 superseded by the Revised European-American Lymphoma (REAL), which in 2001 was adopted as the WHO (World Health Organization) classification.
