Description:
Diet for pernicious anaemia containing large quantities of raw liver. This treatment ranks as one of the greatest advances in therapy.

    Ueber den Fehler der Blutkörperchenbildung bei der perniciösen Anämie.
    [Virchows] Archiv für pathologische Anatomie und Physiologie und für klinische Medicin, Berlin, 1890, 121: 176-181.
    Rindfleisch made the first clear statement of the bone marrow changes in pernicious anaemia.

  • Frieda Saur Robscheit-Robbins (1893-1973) and George Hoyt Whipple (1878-1976):
    Blood regeneration in severe anaemia. Favourable influence of liver, heart and skeletal muscle in diet.
    American Journal of Physiology, 1925, 72: 408-418.
    These workers showed the beneficial effect of raw beef liver upon blood regeneration in anaemia. Their work paved the way for the liver diet treatment of Minot and Murphy.
