Description:
A colour (quantitative) colorimetric reaction to detect proteins, based on the presence in protein of the amino acid tryptophan, which forms coloured complexes with glyoxylic acid. A red-violet ring appears at the interface of concentrated sulphuric acid and the solution of protein and glyoxylic acid.
