Description:
Genus of bacteria sometimes confused with Neissera. They are short, gram negative, immotile rods occurring in mucous membranes. Some species may be pathogenic. Axenfeld species is associated with conjunctivitis. The genus includes two subgenera: i>M. (Moraxella) occurring as rods, and M. (Branhamella) occurring as cocci.
