  • J. M. Baldy:
First removal of the stomach in America.
American Journal of Surgery and Gynecology, New York , 1897-1898, 109: 157-158.
Operation performed by Baldy in 1893. He refers to a claim in Journal of the American Medical Association, 1898, 30: 341-344 giving credit for the first excision of the stomach in America to A. C. Barnays (1854-1907). While Baldy probably deserves priority, the point is moot since neither Baldy's nor Barnay's operations were successful.
