Biography of Charles Hoyt Burnett
Charles Hoyt Burnett studied medicine in Colorado, New York and Boston. He joined Dr. Chester Keefer, "the national czar of penicillin" at Boston University, where his investigations were interrupted by World War II when he joined the army. He described "his" syndrome in 1949 based on observations on metabolic disorders.
Burnett became chairman of medicine at Southwester Medical School in Dallas and later foundation chairman of the department of medicine at the Medical School of North Carolina. He resigned form the latter position because of ill health in 1965.
