Biography of Friedrich von Korányi

Friedrich von Korányi studied in Budapest. During the1848/1849 war of liberation he was first subordinate physician, later deputy battalion physician. After receiving his doctorate in 1851 he became an apprentice at the Operateur-Institut in Vienna under professor Franz Schuh (1804-1865). From 1853 to 1865 he practiced in Nagy-Kálló. He became Docent of neuropathology in 1865 and in 1866 professor of internal medicine at the Budapest University. In 1868 he became rector of the university.

Korányi published in the Hungarian language in Orvosi hetilap, but also published in German. He was a member of the Royal Hungarian Academy of Sciences, honorary member of the Royal Societies of Physicians in Budapest and the Société de Thérapeutique in Paris, corresponding member of the Royal Society of Physicians in Vienna, the Society for Internal Medicin in Berlin and the International Investigative Committee in London.
