Biography of August Hoffmann

August Hoffmann obtained his doctorate at Erlangen in 1887. He was an assistant with Georg Fischer in Canstatt, with Franz Riegel (1843–1904) in Giessen, and with Wilhelm Heinrich Erb (1840-1921) in Heidelberg. In 1891 he settled as a specialist in internal and nervous diseases in Düsseldorf. When the academy of practical medicine was established in Düsseldorf in 1907, he was appointed to the professorship of internal medicine and head of the medical clinic. His main field of work was the diseases of the heart.
