Biography of Sadao Otani

Sadao Otani was the great surgical pathologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, from 1926 to 1969, as a colleague and friend of Paul Klemperer. In addition to glomus jugulare, he described eosinophilic granuloma of bone and malignant nephrosclerosis. Because he had relatively few publications, he never developed a national or international reputation. In New York, however, he was regarded as the most skilled of surgical pathologists.
