Biography of Antonio Cardarelli

Antonio Cardarelli studied at the Collegio medico di San Aniello in Napoli, receiving his doctorate in 1853. He then began working at the Ospedale degli Incurabili, where he passed through all stages of his hospital career, proving himself an excellent clinician who taught a large number of students. In 1890 he became professor of medical pathology, then of clinical medicine, holding these chairs until his 93rd year of life. He was elected senator in 1896. Cardarelli wrote on a wide range of topics ranging from functional disorders of the heart to aneurysms and mediastinal tumours and liver disease.

The Ospedale A. Cardarelli and the Via Antonio Cardarelli in Napoli are named for him.
