Biography of Vladimir Mikhailovich Kernig

Vladimir Mikhailovich Kernig was educated at the University of Dorpat, mainly as a pupil of Adolph Wachsmuth (1827-1865). He obtained his doctorate in 1864, and then immediately entered the Obuchow Hospital in St. Petersburg as voluntary assistant physician. In 1865 he became Ordinator, a position he held besides other appointments to the end of the century. From 1890 he was head physician at the Obuchow Women’s Hospital. Besides this he was also from 1873 to 1890 physician to the school for deaf mutes in St. Petersburg, and 1881-1886 clinical teacher of internal medicine at the Empress Marie’s institutions.
