Biography of Carlos Charlin

Carlos Charlin studied in Santiago de Chile, where he received his doctorate in 1910. He then trained in ophthalmology with Julius von Michel (1843-1911) in Berlin, Karl Theodor Paul Polykarpus Axenfeld (1867-1930) in Freiburg im Breisgau, and Victor Morax (1866-1935) in Paris. In Santiago de Chile he worked at the eye clinics at the Hospital Salvador and the Hospital San Vicente and was appointed professor aggregado at his alma mater in 1917, in 1928 ordinarius of ophthalmology. His particular field of interest was the relationship between ophthalmology, general medicine and neurology. He became director of the Archivos de oftalmologia hisp.-americ. de Barcelona and editor of the Annales d’oculistique.
