Biography of Julius Wolfgang Weichardt

Wolfgang Weichardt studied at Jena, Leipzig, Munich, and Berlin, obtaining his doctorate at Breslau in 1900. He received further education as assistant at the hygienic-bacteriological laboratory at Breslau under Karl Flügge (1847-1923), at the bacteriological-pathological institute of the city of Dresden under Christian Georg Schmorl (1861-1932), at the Institut Pasteur in Paris under Elie Metchnikoff (1845-1916), as assistant at the hygienical institute in Hamburg under William Philipp Dunbar (1863-1922), as well as at Berlin hygienical institute under Max Rubner (1854-1932). From 1905 to 909 he was 1st assistant at the university hygienical-bacteriological institute in Erlangen, where he was habilitated for hygiene and experimental therapy in 1905, becoming ausserordentlicher professor in 1911, and also became director of the Bayerische bakteriologische Untersuchungsanstalt in Erlangen.

His most important work concerns unspecific Reiztherapie, and he also contributed to Synzytoxine, anaphylaxis, parenterale Eiweissverdauung, and metabolism.

Weichardt was the publisher of Ergebnisse der Hygiene, Bakteriologie, Immunitätsforschung und Experimentellen Therapie.
