Dutch dermatologist, born 1877, Amsterdam; died 1929.

Inheritable disease comprising multiple cutaneous nodules which tend to become malignant in early adulthood, together with cysts of the jaws, cranial enlargement and a variety of minor skeletal malformations.

Biography:
J. W. van der Valk studied in Amsterdam and Leyden. In 1906 he became assistant in the university clinic for skin- and venereal diseases in Amsterdam and from 1909 to 1924 was chief physician in the department of diseases of the skin at the Wilhelmina-Gasthuis. He obtained his medical doctorate in 1910. In 1924 he became professor of dermatology in Groningen.
