Hartog Jakob Hamburger

Biography:
Hertog Jakob Hamburger studied in Utrecht and received his doctorate there in 1883. He was Franz Cornelis Donders' (1818-1889) assistant, and in 1888 became Dozent of physiology and pathology at the national veterinary school in Utrecht. In 1901 he became professor of physiology in Groningen where he founded an important school, and in 1911 established very well equipped institute.

One of Holland's most important physiological chemists, he undertook a large number of investigations, particularly in his special field of physiological chemistry.
