He worked as a house surgeon at the Royal Salop Hospital for 4 years and then in general practice for 11 years in his native county of Shropshire. Back in London he gained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 1897 and specialized in dermatology, working in skin departments in a number of hospitals including John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in Leicester Square. He was appointed Honorary Dermatologist to the Artist’s Section of the Stage Guild.

His work concerns the Herxheimer’s spirals and other microscopic studies in the field of dermatology.
