Biography of Pierre Prosper François Baumès

Pierre Prosper François Baumés studied medicine in Lyon, becoming an intern in 1819. In 1823 he was conferred doctor of medicine, and in 1832 - through concours - he became chief surgeon at the Hospice de l'Antiquaille in Lyon. He was particulalrly famous as a syphilologist and dermatologist, with a long list of publications on these subjects. He invented a laryngoscope - Speculum pour l’exploration de la gorge (In: Compte rendu de la Société de Médecine de Lyon, 1840, page 62).
