Biography of Rudolf Matzenauer
Rudolf Matzenauer studied in Vienna and recieved his doctorate there in 1894. From 1897 to 1902 he was assistant at the clinic for skin and veneral diseases under Isidor Neumann (1832-1906). He was habilitated in Vienna in 1902, becoming ausserordentlicher Professor in 1907, and in 1912 full professor in Graz, succeeding Karl Kreibich (1869-1932). 1924/1925 he was dean of the medical faculty in Graz.
Matzenauer was the discoverer of the maternal transfer of syphilis. Besides his own publications, he prepared the 2nd edition of Adolf Jarisch’s (1850-1902) book Die Hautkrankheiten (Vienna, 1908).
