Biography of August von Froriep
August von Froriep came from a family of scholarly men. He studied in Göttingen, Tübingen, and Leipzig, where he obtained his doctorate in 1874. He was an assistant in Leipzig under Christian Wilhelm Braune (1831-1892), and in 1878 became prosector in Tübingen. He became professor extraordinary in Tübingen in 1884 and in 1895 succeeded Wilhelm Henke (1834-1896) as ordinarius. He retired on April 1, 1917 and died in October that year.
A large part of his publications concern the morphology and developmental history of the head and the vertebra.
