French physician, born March 3, 1616, Le Mans; died October 16, 1708, Paris.

Biography:
François Poupart obtained his doctorate in Reims. He practiced for a period in the Hôtel-Dieu, and settled in Paris, where he became a member of the Académie des sciences. Besides medicine, this naturalist, anatomist, and surgeon concerned himself enthusiastically with natural sciences, particularly entomology. Today he is particularly remembered for his accurate description of the inguinal ligament in 1695.
