Biography:
Emil Algot Holmgren was the son of a zoologist. He was a pupil of Retzius, studying in Stockholm and Uppsala. He became med lic in Stockholm in 1898, in 1899 doctor of medicine at Uppsala. In 1894 he became assistant in histology and in 1899 was habilitated for this discipline. In 1901 he was appointed professor of histology and chief of the histological department of the Karolinska Institutet.
