Biography:
Ronald L. DeWald is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine and a board-certified (1968) and recertified (1983) Orthopaedic Surgeon. He has served on the Board of Examiners for The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and on the Board of Editors of the SPINE Journal since 1975. He is a past president of the Chicago Orthopaedic Society, Illinois Orthopaedic Society and founder of the Chicago Spine Club. He has published over fifty articles on the treatment of scoliosis, spinal trauma and spinal disease. Moreover, he has received over seventy-five national and local faculty lectureships. He served as Editor-In-Chief of the Textbook of Spinal Surgery which is now in its second edition. Dr. DeWald also served as Chairman of GICD-USA.
Dr. Ronald L. DeWald has been recognized internationally for over a quarter of a century for achievements in spinal care. He is a founding member and past president of the Scoliosis Research Society. He developed the Halo-Hoop Apparatus for the correction of severe scoliotic deformities and pelvic obliquities. Founder of the University of Illinois Hospital's Scoliosis Clinic in 1965, DeWald also established Orthopaedics and Scoliosis, LLC. He is the Director of the Section of Spine Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and is a past president of the Medical Staff. Dr. Dewald also serves as a Professor of Orthopaedics at Rush Medical College.
