Biography:
Abel Mix Phelps studied at the University of Michigan, where he received his doctorate in 1873. He received further education at the surgical clinics of Germany, successfully turned to orthopaedic surgery and worked in New York, where he was professor at the university as well as at the Post Graduate Medical School. During the years 1885 to 1888 Phelps was also professor at the University of Vermont.
