Holger Victor Dyggve

Danish paediatrician and psychiatrist, born December 19, 1913; died 1984.

A familial skeletal disorder characterised by short trunk dwarfism, exaggerated lordosis, protrusion of the sternum, flattened vertebral bodies, small hands and feet, clawed fingers and mental retardation.

Dwarfing skeletal dysplasia with features of the Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome, however, with normal intelligence.





Biography:

Holger Victor Dyggve, paediatrician and psychiatrist, was head of the Andersvænge institution in Slagelse, a city in the western part of Sjælland. This institution for the mentally retarded particularly cared for children and adults from Greenland. The syndrome named for him an his collaborators, Melchior and Clausen, was identified among this group.
