Edvard Lauritz Ehlers

Danish dermatologist, 1863-1937.

An inherited disorder of the elastic connective tissue characterised by hypereleasticity of the skin, hypermobility of the joints due to extremely lax ligaments and tendons, poor wound healing, and cardiac defects.





Biography:
Edvard Lauritz Ehlers grew up in comfortable circumstances in Copenhagen, where his father was Mayor. He qualified in medicine in 1891 and continued his studies in Berlin, Breslau, Vienna and Paris. In 1906 he was appointed chief of the dermatological polyclinic at the Frederiks Hospital. and from 1911 until his retirement in 1932 he was director of the special service at the Kommunehospitalet (Municipal Hospital) in Copenhagen.
