Herrmann Arthur Thost

German physician, born June 9, 1854, Zwickau, Sachsen; died 1937.

Biography:
Herrmann Arthur Thost studied at Leipzig, Würzburg, Heidelberg, and Strassburg, later also at Vienna. He obtained his doctorate in 1879 at Heidelberg, where he received his further education in internal clinic under Nikolaus Friedreich (1825-1882). He later worked in the new Allgemeines Krankenhaus Eppendorf. He enjoyed a great reputation as a physician and distinguished himself in his efforts in local politics, advocating public medical insurance. He was an honorary member of several laryngolocal societies.

When the University of Hamburg opened in 1919, Thost became Extraordinarius of oto-laryngology; later becoming emeritus.
