    Biography of Jean Aicardi

    Jean Aicardi qualified in medicine at the University of Paris and spent his whole career as a paediatric neurologist, with a special interest in paediatric epilepsy, at the Saint-Vincent de Paul and Enfants Malades Hospitals in Paris. In 1955 he received a doctorate for his thesis entitled Convulsions in the First Year of Life.

    After his retirement in 1991, Aicardi took up appointments as honorary professor of child neurology at the Institute of Child Health and honorary consultant at the Hospital for Sick Children, London. Aicardi married Jeanne Coutourier in 1958.
