Ernst Gustaf Melkersson
Swedish physician, 1898-1932.

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome
Cheilitis glandularis. Syndrome characterised by a triad of symptoms comprising recurrent facial paralysis, chronic edema of the face and lips, and and hypertrophy and fissuring of the tongue (lingua plicata).

Miescher's cheilitis
Granulomatous cheilitis as a monosymptomatic form of the Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome.

Biography:
Ernst Gustaf Melkersson was educated in Uppsala and later worked at the medical department of the Sahlgrenska sjukhuset in Gothenburg. His chief interest was in diseases of the kidneys. He was a gifted scientist engaged in a wide field of research, but died at the early age of only 34 years after a brief period of sickness.
